As a result of a Data Breach you may receive a message “INVALID ID” when checking eligibility.
In May a data breach in the MOVEit Transfer software resulted in a breach of the Medicare numbers of approximately 600,000 Medicare Beneficiaries.
As a result of this breach, Medicare is issuing new cards to all individuals impacted by the breach. This means that the Medicare number you have on file is no longer valid for impacted patients.
We recommend that you check eligibility for each patient prior to their visit, and if you get an “INVALID ID” message ask your patient to bring their new card in at the time of the visit.
If you do not check and update the ID your claims may be denied. If that case you will need to contact your patients and update their Medicare ID in your billing system.
