2. Amount and/or complexity of data reviewed and analyzed: For example, reviewing imaging, lab results, or outside records.
3. Risk of complications, morbidity, or mortality: Prescription drug management intrinsically qualifies as moderate risk under the third element
Application in a Podiatric Office:
1. The Risk Element: Managing or writing a prescription (such as an antifungal oral medication, a new diabetic foot ulcer topical, or specialized neuropathic pain medication) fulfills the moderate risk criterion.
2. The Second Element Needed: Because prescription management satisfies the risk requirement, you only need to meet a moderate level in one other MDM element (such as addressing two stable chronic conditions like peripheral neuropathy and stable peripheral artery disease or managing a chronic condition with exacerbation/progression) to reach moderate MDM overall.
