Modifiers for CR, DR and Acetate Films
FX Modifier
- 1. Modifier FX designates X-ray imaging services that are taken using traditional X-ray film rather than digital radiography (DR). Claims for X-rays using film are to include modifier FX.
- 2. When modifier FX is submitted with modifier TC (Technical component), reimbursement will be at 80% of the TC allowable amount (20% reduction of the Technical component).
- 3. This FX modifier will result in a 20% reduction to the Technical component (and the technical component of the Global fee).
- 4. Applies to Medicare. Check with the policy of the individual commercial health insurance carriers.
FY Modifier
- 1. Modifier FY designates imaging services that are X-rays taken using computed radiography (CR) rather than digital radiography (DR). Claims for X-rays using computed radiography are to include modifier FY.
- 2. When modifier FY is submitted with modifier TC (Technical component), reimbursement will be 93% of the TC allowable amount (7% reduction of technical component).
- 3. This FY modifier will result in a 7% reduction to the technical component (and the technical component of the global fee).
- 4. This reduction was expected to last until 2023, when the reduction was slated to increase to 10%.
- 5. Apples to Medicare. Check with the policy of the individual commercial health insurance carriers.
This is my opinion.
