ALERT!!!
Sonicwall, the manufacturer of a security product many practices rely on has just had a data breach.
Sonicwall responded by recommending that ALL CUSTOMERS who use a MySonicWall account reset their passwords immediately.
If you have a MySonicWall account, please do this now.
The data exposed can provide a hacker with full access to your network and your patient data.
SonicWall has also published detailed guidance to help administrators minimize the risk of an exposed firewall configuration being exploited to access their networks, reconfigure potentially compromised secrets and passwords, and detect possible threat activity within their network.
This is not the first time that a company that is in the business of protecting us from data beaches has been breached. The lesson here is nobody is perfect, and we need to constantly remain vigilant in maintaining the security of our practices. This includes
Keeping up with all software and firmware patches for all of our devices
Subscribing and registering all of our devices with the manufacturers so that we get timely notification of security vulnerabilities and update the devices with the latest patches to keep those devices and our networks protected.
Making sure that our Business Associate Agreements are up to date and our vendors are contractually obligated to maintain the security of our patient data they hold. Remember even if you do not have a device that has been compromised, if your vendor has a Sonicwall and has not patched it, your data is at risk.
Consider working with TLD Systems who will keep you up to date on the latest important news that is vital to keeping your patient data safe from hackers who may want to steal or encrypt your data.
